Toy Free Month: Cultivating Creativity and Sustainability in Young Learners
- Free play
- Creativity
- Sustainability
A month without bought toys: children invent their own play – with boxes, fabric scraps, pine cones and stones.
What it is about
For one month, the group puts the bought toys away. Instead there are everyday and natural materials that don't dictate how to play. A box can be a boat today and a cave tomorrow.
The children decide what these things become. They grow inventive, solve problems together and discover along the way how little it takes to play.
Primera's role
Primera supports educators in promoting creative and sustainable play in kindergarten. This includes exchanging proven ideas and using everyday objects and natural materials in play.
How we use it
In our training, we explore toy-free play. Educators set conventional toys aside for a period and offer everyday objects, recycled materials and natural materials instead. Children invent games, build together, negotiate roles and learn to cooperate.
